I just discovered a new book by Eric Litwin (the original Pete the Cat author) and illustrated by Tom Lichenheld. If you love Pete, you'll love Groovy Joe in this story title Groovy Joe--Ice Cream & Dinosaurs.
It has a lovable character in Groovy Joe, a fun story with lots of rhyme and a good messages about sharing and turning a problem into an opportunity. Great musical bits, which you can download.
AND--there's an additional song that would be a great "brain break" dance with lots of movement and easy to remember lyrics.
Strategy wise, I can see lots of ways to use this book:
--For rhyming practice
--Tune in to interesting words and use in speaking and writing
--Punctuation enhancing prosody
--Text features--the book in chocked full of examples
--Rereading for fluency (I guarantee this will be a favorite of your students)
Check it out--a great addition to your books to use for strategy intros--and just plain fun!!
